This is my classwork showreel for December 2015. It contains models and lighting assignments from September to December 2015 (with a couple exceptions) that I did while in the Game Development programme at the Nova Scotia Community College in Truro, Nova Scotia.

Questionable name aside, this is a character modelled from a design by one of my traditional animation colleagues for her final project. I was intrigued by her interpretation of these elemental characters (one was fire and the other was water), and what I wanted was to create a layered model that would eventually be able to honour the original, fluid animation she had done.

This is a character model I built off of a simple design from our traditional animation class. I thought it would be a nice change from the primarily bipedal characters I made for almost all our other projects.
2015 brought us at least two top-notch, high-profile dinosaur films, but I made this around Christmas in 2014. I’m telling you, I think Universal and Pixar stole my idea!
I sculpted this terrain using Maya’s Sculpt Geometry tool, and then UV mapped/textured it.
That dark area in the corner is a short tunnel which leads up to a path, which loops up to the top of the hill where the bridge starts.
The best part of this scene was the little house on the ledge. It was fun to try to give it a more weathered appearance, which stemmed from the inspiration I took from the cabin in The Evil Dead… it was October at the time.
One of our assignments was to model and light an interior scene. I found this to be one of my favourite projects, and I actually think I may have improved the appearance of the room over my original reference photo. Here’s that one:

The materials are mostly mia_material_X, except the duvet cover, the lampshade and the fabric on the stool. The photo outside comes from Matt Sutkoski’s WordPress blog.

Again, I really liked modelling all these pieces inside of a finite amount of space; I felt it allowed me to have a tighter focus than an outdoor scene which gave me more control over what everything looks like.
I modelled these props for an animation project I did in which the two characters were sitting on either side of a desk. I wanted to go for a more interesting look than a standard desk and computer, so the furniture has modern, minimal lines. The computer, however, was based on Apple’s irresistible design of the iMac G4 from 2004 (and their wireless keyboard of more recent vintage).
